Flameworking

Want to explore the world of glass art, but on a small scale? Flameworking is the place for you!

Flameworking is an art form that comes from thousands of years of history. It spans continents, from Africa to Asia to Europe, with many different traditions and skills. As recently as the last 50 years, flameworking has enjoyed a modern resurgence. It generally requires fewer tools and materials than other glass techniques, and you can create everything from decorative beads to small hollow vessels.

In our refurbished Flameworking Shop, campers learn the magic of this small, detailed glass art form. Campers learn how to melt small glass rods, heated up in a small acetylene torch. Each time they heat the glass, they can shape it as they desire, creating everything from beads to animal sculptures to small blown vessels. Our counselors guide them through the whole process, learning multiple techniques such as winding, marvering, stringers, and more!
