Evening Activities
The last act of the day.
Every evening after dinner there are many activities campers may choose from. The "early" evening activity, from 7:30-8:30 pm, is often a smaller, craft-based workshop to introduce campers to the fine arts and creative workshops they may not have yet visited. Other early activities are just plain fun – such as making cupcakes, playing trivia games, face painting or rock star photos. In addition, team sports take place at this time offering softball games, basketball, ultimate frisbee, soccer, or capture the flag.
The "main" or "late" evening activity usually begins at 8:30pm. There are theater performances, dance recitals, movies on the lawn, stand-up comedy nights, dance parties, Karaoke, Rock Cafe, Poetry Slams, Talent Nights, music concerts and much more. In addition, each evening there are a handful of workshops open to allow campers to continue working on their projects or start new ones.
Each summer, there are special activities that involve the whole camp. Carnival, a fair held at the Four Seasons field, encourages campers to host stalls in addition to the jumping castles, popcorn and cotton candy machines.
Reflecting the spirit and philosophy of Buck's Rock, campers have the opportunity to contribute to the planning of the summer evening activity program by making suggestions. More recently, campers have even organized and hosted their own activities, demonstrating impressive event management and public relations skills.
The gong and an announcement over our P.A. system publicize the evening activities. Campers can also always find out what is happening by checking the blackboard on the evening activities building, the display above the Office. At the conclusion of the evening, the put-to-bed gong is rung and campers return to their respective cabins.
