CORE DUTIES:
These vitally important jobs are critical to the smooth operations of camp. You will be assigned these duties prior to the campers’ arrival. No-shows or not finding coverage will be viewed as not doing your job and you may be subject to termination.
Guidance/CIT Assist (GA/CITA): Guidance Assist is a secondary duty assigned to certain staff members prior to the arrival of campers in June. Guidance/CIT Assists work in auxiliary to Guidance/CIT Counselors, providing coverage at bunks or in designated areas roughly from the hours of 6:30pm to 10:30pm, for Guidance Assist, or 10:30pm to midnight, for CIT Assist, to allow for time off for regularly assigned staff. At times, GA's and CITA's may be tasked with remote responsibilities like overnight duty or trips afield from camp. With few exceptions, staff are assigned one secondary duty per summer only.
Safety Crew (SC): The primary role of the Safety Crew, one possible secondary duty at camp, is to ensure the safety and security of all campers and staff on camp premises by making nightly rounds. The Safety Crew will meet with the coordinating staff and directors during pre-camp orientation for basic training and periodically throughout the summer to address safety and security concerns as needed. Most Safety Crew members are on duty from 8:00 p.m. until the put-to-bed routine is completed, roughly between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. nightly. A late-shift Safety Crew member is also on duty each night, active from the put-to-bed gong until 1:30 a.m. Each Safety Crew member is given a set schedule consisting of two or three shifts per week, which will be arranged during the initial Safety Crew meeting during pre-camp. From time to time, additional coverage may be requested by the Directors that may include duty outside of normal Safety Crew hours. With few exceptions, staff are assigned one secondary duty per summer only. Safety Crew is also assigned to Trunk and Traffic.
Trunk & Traffic (T&T): Trunk & Traffic works under the supervision and organization of directorial staff and camp's Logistics Coordinator. Staff tasked with this secondary duty see to the organized and timely delivery of campers' bags and effects from their cars to assigned bunk spaces at the beginning of each session, as well as reversing the order to arrange for bags to end up with the right families and the right cars at the end of each session. Staff work together to sort and secure luggage while working with a camp driver to effect.
Support Assist (SA): This secondary duty is responsible for aiding in ongoing work in support areas on camp, including the kitchen, grounds, office, and housekeeping. Support Assists apply themselves to work at key moments during daytime hours, typically during meals, to help alleviate the stresses of work in support areas while breaking down any stigmas of or biases toward non-instructional work at Buck's Rock. With few exceptions, staff are assigned one secondary duty per summer only.
