Bunk Life
As a sleepaway camp, our bunks are the center of every camper’s life. Buck’s Rock living quarters provide a comfortable respite from the day's activities, where campers can relax, socialize, and talk with their guidance counselors. Campers live in rooms with four to six cozy wooden bunk beds per room. Each bunk building holds between 20-24 campers, all of the same age and gender. Campers choose what bunk they feel most comfortable in, whether that is with male, female, or non-binary bunkmates. Every bunk building has three guidance counselors assigned to that bunk. These counselors are responsible for the social-emotional wellbeing of all campers in that bunk. There is at least one adult on duty at the bunk 24/7, and campers can return to the bunk or wake them up at any time to talk to someone, no matter the situation.
Every bunk has a shared bathroom, with at least four showers, sinks, and toilets. Shower stalls and toilets are private. There are no assigned shower times; campers are allowed to use the bathrooms whenever they feel most comfortable. Our housekeeping staff cleans common areas of the bunks daily, including the bathrooms and hallways. Campers are responsible for the upkeep of their own rooms, and there is a clean-up hour every Friday from 1-2pm. Campers are expected to fold laundry, sweep the floor, take out trash, and wipe down shelves during this hour.
All of our bunks have shelves and hanging areas for campers to store their clothes and personal belongings. Electrical outlets are available so that campers can plug in fans, alarm clocks, radios, or recharge small electronics. While there isn’t air conditioning in the bunks, we encourage campers to bring fans for the summer. Campers are allowed to use personal e-readers or mp3 players in the bunks, as long as they are not connected to WiFi.
